School Age Children with DD: Navigating Life from Ages 5-13

Noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 8, on Zoom.

Join experts from Hamilton County Developmental Disabilities Services, parents, and family members for a discussion of important considerations for school-age children from 5-13 years old. School age is a time of several transitions, whether starting elementary school, beginning at a new school, or simply moving from one grade to the next. At the same time, children are experiencing rapid intellectual and developmental changes. Even at this young age, it’s helpful to identify goals and plan for the future. This session will include a walk-through of resources available in the newly created Life Stage Transition Guides as well as the opportunity for Q&A.

As you get ready for major transition times in your life or the life of a loved one with a disability, the information you find can be overwhelming. Sometimes it might be difficult to know where, or how, to start. The Life Stage Transition Guide is meant to help you get started by sharing some of the most important things to consider of life’s major transition times. We hope the information in the guide will help you decide what is important to you and your family, equip you to find the resources that are relevant to you, and help you feel confident as you plan for the future.
