Over the past several weeks, we’ve heard from many of you regarding funding uncertainty and various policy shifts at the federal level. Through calls and emails, you’ve reached out to ask questions, express concerns, seek guidance, or offer support. We know some of the proposed changes have the potential to significantly impact people we serve, families, and partners, and a lack of clarity can cause worry when it relates to the services and supports you or your loved one rely on. We’re committed to working with all of you to make a collective positive impact.
HCDDS has been engaged in policy discussions at all levels of government, and we’re actively monitoring developments at both the state and federal levels. We’re working closely with local partners, elected officials, and other government agencies and using our role as a trusted organization on disability-related issues to inform policymakers about the impact these proposals would have on people with developmental disabilities and families.
One of the goals in our 2025-2027 Strategic Plan is to promote advocacy leadership so people can exercise choice and impact change. An essential part of that goal is sharing opportunities for people to advocate for policies that are important to them. We’ll keep you informed of opportunities for you to learn about policy changes and get involved with issues that are meaningful to you.
One of the key concerns we’re hearing from you now relates to proposals in Congress that could significantly reduce Medicaid funding. If you would like to make your voice heard on this topic, disability advocacy groups like ANCOR and The Arc have developed resources. You can visit their websites to learn more and to tell elected officials why Medicaid is important to you and other people with developmental disabilities.
Likewise, legislators at the Ohio Statehouse have begun the biennial budget process. We’re grateful that our elected officials were supportive of our work and Ohio’s DD system in the last budget and that the investment is sustained in the governor’s most recent proposed budget. We look forward to continuing to work closely with legislators as they move through the budget process, and we’ll share opportunities to give your perspective.
Most importantly, we remain focused on our mission to support and empower people with developmental disabilities across Hamilton County. Alongside dedicated family caregivers, providers, and community partners, and with the steadfast support of the Hamilton County community, we look forward to continuing our important work. Thank you for your support and partnership.
Sincerely,
Leia Snyder
